The Locker Room

An astounding 87% of students in the Dallas Independent School District are defined as “economically disadvantaged” if he or she is eligible for free or reduced-price lunch or other public assistance.  A student become at-risk for dropping out of school when faced with these economic challenges.

Due to lack of services and jobs, Dallas is home to low-income residents than any of its neighboring cities in the state of Texas.  Residents in concentrated areas of Dallas are living well below the poverty line which is a family of four with an annual household income of $25,100 or less.  Far too many of these students graduate high school “not ready for college or a career”, because they are having to focus on other things like where their next meal might be.

Infusing Hope wants to remove barriers from students to help them achieve academic success.  To do this, we want to implement The Locker Room in low-income elementary schools in Dallas county.  The Locker Room will provide students with new and gently used clothing and hygiene products.

Time and time again we hear teachers and social workers tell us that personal hygiene and clean clothing are major issues among the neediest children in our schools.  These students feel like outsiders and withdraw from their classmates.  We know that not having food, clean clothes, or basic hygiene items obstructs a child’s ability to learn and thrive.

What will The Locker Room provide?  Most Dallas schools require students to wear uniforms.  We will provide new and gently used items such as school uniforms, casual wear, sweaters, coats, and shoes.  Infusing Hope will also have new undergarments and socks within The Locker Room.  There will also be a section with basic hygiene products such as deodorant, shampoo, and body wash.

The first school we will be partnering with is Pleasant Grove Elementary school.  98% of the students at this school receive free or reduced lunches.  This elementary school has over 500 students and grades range from Pre-K to 5th grade.  The faculty and staff at Pleasant Grove Elementary School is committed to providing all students with academic and skills to graduate college and workforce ready so that they may reach their greatest potential.

Ways you can help…  Monetary donations allow Infusing Hope to purchase items to ensure all kids can attend school every day with confidence and dignity, ready to learn.  In-kind donations allows The Locker Room to meet immediate needs for clothing and personal care items.  Also, you can support students with a Sponsorship of an event to help support The Locker Room needs.  All donations are tax deductible!

With your help, Infusing Hope strives to make a positive and lasting impact on the well-being of the children in our community by providing basic necessities.  We do this to help empower students and future leaders.
